30th anniversary championship show 2016

Hungarian Vizsla Society Championship Show

It was a great honour to be invited and officiating in this very professionally organized and smoothly run Show to express a "Hungarian opinion" from the country of origin of the breed.
156 Vizslas made a very impressive entry of 191.
Like everywhere else the mentioned entry represented some different existing types of this magnificent breed. Being a judge of Vizsla since 28 years following the situation of the breed since an even longer time with an experience coming from 5 Continents I tried to make my preferance as obvious as possible.
The Hungarian Vizsla is a strong working dog. Its traditional type is rather strong but elegant enough without any tendency of being "houndy" with excessive soft tissue in any region of its body. A good vizsla can also not be refined or "sighthound-like". This kind of elegance doesn't belong to the breed. One can everywhere see some Pointer influence in the breed with the square profile of the muzzle and a rather strong stop as well as a topline more typical in Pointer than in Vizsla. Even if these dogs had a kind, eyecatching expression these features are highly undesirable in the Vizsla.
It made me happy and proud to realize that how well British breeders taking care of this Hungarian breed and all my winners represented the Hungarian Vizsla in a very high level!
Minor Puppy Dog:
1st: Mrs. L Barrett's KARASZY'S GLORIOUS LEGACY. A beautiful puppy in excellent type, lovely head, balance & substance to his age. Kept his topline moving around the ring. A possibly bright future ahead of him.
2nd:Mrs K Armstrong's SEVERNHILL'S FERNANDO. Good type, nice head good shoulder assembly. A lot to like on him. He needs more time to move like my winner did.
Puppy Dog:
1st: Mrs E Roe's SARGASBARNA SALVO DEL PIROSPONT. Topped a large quality Class of puppies. Excellent type, head, balance& substance. Correct anatomy & movement. High tail carriage on the move. Best Puppy Dog, Res. Best Puppy in Show.
